Preliminary Design

A 'desk-top' study early in the conceptual design is often the most valuable service we provide.  These studies typically consist of reviewing the available drawings, historical mapping, geologic references, and overall site topography to identify key subsurface issues that may have significant impacts on the project.  This broad-based consulting provides the designer and cost estimator input early in schedule, allowing adjustments that will avoid subsurface problems and associated costs later in the project.

Design Phase

Our geotechnical engineering services are customized for a specific building design and site configuration.  Project specific subsurface exploration and laboratory testing programs are developed based on our expectation of the site's subsurface conditions.  We take pride in evaluating the results and providing the other members of the design team with recommendations for tackling the subsurface conditions in a timely manner.  Typical concerns we address include site preparation and drainage, re-use of on-site soils, foundation options, floor slab design criteria, road and parking lot pavement designs, trench/slope stability and seismic design criteria/site classifications.

Construction Documents Bidding Phase

We review the plans and specifications and consult with the design team as they integrate our geotechnical recommendations into the overall design.  We consult on bidding options and review proposed alternatives, working to reduce unknowns before construction begins.

Construction Phase

During construction we work with the design and construction teams to implement the geotechnical design.  We focus on assuring that overall project quality meets your needs.  Our professional reputation with local contractors helps foster an atmosphere where unanticipated conditions are brought to our (and your) attention and resolved in a judicious and timely manner to develop cost effective solutions.
